Dr. Evelyn Namubiru-Mwaura, Vice President was re-elected Vice President of the AAAE during the 5th AAAE Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Evelyn is a Strategy and Policy Manager at the African Academy of Sciences (AAS), based in Nairobi, Kenya.
She has over fifteen years of experience in international development focusing on land tenure and natural resource management. She has developed extensive expertise on land tenure and property rights, women’s land rights, sustainable forest resource management, REDD and Climate Change through academic and consulting appointments with the World Bank, UNREDD, UNDP-GEF, International Forestry Resources and Institutions (IFRI) and Makerere University. She holds a Joint PhD in Public Policy from Indiana University, a Masters in Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University, and BSc. in Forestry from Makerere University. She has published on a wide variety of subjects related to customary land tenure, REDD and forestry governance, indigenous use of forestry products, decentralization and natural resource management, and the role of institutions in conservation efforts. Prior to joining AGRA, Dr. Namubiru-Mwaura worked as a Senior Manager, Africa Program and Senior Land Tenure Specialist at Landesa where she led and carried out research on Customary Land Tenure, Climate Adaptability, and Women and Land tenure in Africa. Dr Namubiru-Mwaura a Kenyan of Uganda descent.
