Dr Lassaad
Lachaal is a Senior Research Economist in the Development Research
Department, Complex of the Chief Economist at the African Development
Bank. Prior to joining the African Development Bank Group, Dr Lachaal
served, from 1999 to 2005, as the Head of the Agricultural Economics
Research Department at INRAT, University of Tunis, Tunisia. He also worked
as a consultant to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the World
Food Program and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
He holds a Ph.D.
in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri at Columbia, USA
and a Minor in International Agricultural Development. He also holds a
Master of Arts in Economics in the area of Economic Development and a
Master of Sciences in policy analysis as well been a Visiting Scholar
(1998) at the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI) in
Columbia, USA.
Research
interests
Dr Lachaal’s
research interests include the analysis and measurement of efficiency,
productivity growth and competitiveness of the agricultural sector in
Africa. He coordinates the African Development Bank’s Economic Research
Working Paper (ERWP) Series, the network for the Maghreb countries and is
the Co-managing editor of the African Development review.
Dr Lachaal has
received several awards, including: The J. William Fulbright Visiting
Research Scholar Award, 1997; The University of Missouri at Columbia
Superior Achievement Award, 1994; The SAEA Distinguished Professional
Contribution Award, 1993; and, The Tenth Research and Creative Activities
Forum Award, USA, 1992
