Dr. Anthony Ojonimi Onoja

Dr. Anthony Ojonimi Onoja, an Agricultural Economist (Agricultural Finance/Project Analysis expert and Resource and Environmental Economist), is a Senior Lecturer and the Immediate Past Head, at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, University of Port Harcourt (https://www.uniport.edu.ng/ ). He is also an adjunct lecturer at the Institute of Natural Resource, Environment and Sustainable Development (INRES), and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (IAR & D), both at the University of Port Harcourt. He obtained a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics (Resource and Environmental Economics option) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2015. He is currently an Executive Board Member (West African Regional Representative) of the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE) and incumbent President, Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet: http://www.aprnetworkng.org ). He was a Visiting Research Scholar (May-August 2018) at the University of South Africa (UNISA), Johannesburg. He started his academic career at Kogi State University where he lectured from March 2000 to March 2008 before proceeding to the University of Port Harcourt. While at Kogi State University, Anyigba, he was the pioneer branch Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) there and a member of the Senate as the Faculty Representative.  His researches are in agricultural & food policy, resource and environmental economics (especially climate change impacts and adaptation analysis), applied econometrics, agribusiness finance, and macroeconomic analysis. He serves on the editorial boards of three reputable journals. A certified reviewer of Elsevier Journals, Dr. Onoja has three books to his credit and over 75 peer-reviewed research articles in reputable journals and in 5 books of readings including publications of Springer Nature and Routledge (Taylor and Francis). He was also appointed as an  Expert Reviewer of the Working Group I Contribution to the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report. Dr. Anthony Onoja is well-traveled as a researcher. A consultant to IFPRI-Nigeria/USAID/Nigeria Strategy Support Program collaboration program with Michigan State University (Feed-the-Future), he had won scholarships, fellowships and research grants from Global Development Network/USAID, Forum for Agriculture Research in Africa (FARA), Association of African Universities (AAU), SIDA & AGRIFOSE2030/University of Gothenburg and Environment for Development (EfD) also based in University of Gothenburg, Sweden. A one-time consultant to World Bank/Fadama program and GTZ, he is also a recipient of an international mobility scholarship funded by the European Union in the Intra-ACP Academic Mobility Scheme called TRECCAFRICA (which saw him doing a Ph.D. exchange in trans-disciplinary studies in climate change at Institute of Climate and Society, Mekelle University, Ethiopia from June 2014 - March 2015). He had twice won awards for outstanding contributions to research and development awarded by the University of Port Harcourt. In 2017 he was named City Law Review (CTLR) Researcher of the Year by an Abuja based Magazine with bias for public policy and law. He is a member of International Association of Agricultural Economists, IAAE, African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE), Nigerian Association of Agricultural Economists (NAAE) and Agricultural Policy Research Network (APRNet), Agriculture, Nutrition & Health (ANH) Academy and African Association of Resource and Environmental Economists (AFAERE).  He is conversant with the use of econometrics and statistical software such as EViews, Frontier 4.1C, STATA, SHAZAM, SPSS, MS Excel, Limpdep, R and Genstat. He also uses GIS software such as DSSAT and Arc GIS fairly.
